Guidelines for Pre-school Motor Development Clinic

 POWERPOINT CLASS NOTES

GUIDELINES FOR PRE-SCHOOL MOTOR DEVELOPMENT CLINIC ASSIGNMENTS

  •  During the first clinic lab session you will meet your student, and proceed to assess him on the Fundamental Motor Skills Inventory.  You will circle the level in BLACK pen that you feel best fits the child's current level of performance.  We will go over this in class.
  • You will also videotape your student performing the motor skills at each station.  You will need to bring a Mini DVD videotape to class on the first day of the clinic.
  • You will then look at the results of your assessment and prepare a summary of the results.  This summary will include a synopsis of what you found when assessing your child (look at each skill evaluated and discuss if the child is in the low, intermediate, or high level of each skill, discuss why child is at that level, etc.).  For each skill, develop and write a goal that you will try to accomplish during the next 4 weeks of the clinic.  The goal should be based on the child's present level of performance and what you think you can reasonably accomplish in the next 4 weeks.
  • Before each clinic lab sessions # 2 - 4, develop a lesson plan delineating exactly what you will do with your child during that session .  See lesson plan format, we will go over it in class.
  • After each lab session # 2 - 4,  fill out a reflection/evaluation form and turn it in on the following Monday.
  • For Clinic lab session # 5, you will re-assess your student to see if he/she has made any improvements in each of the motor skills.  You will reuse the assessment tool used during the first lab session, this time circling the current level of  performance in RED pen. You will not have a lesson plan on that day.
  • On the last clinic day you will re-tape your student at each of the motor skill stations.  You will then develop a cd-rom imovie of your student’s progress over the 5 weeks of the clinic.  We will go over the details in class.
  • After the entire clinic program is done, you will turn in a final lab report, in a 3 ring folder, organized as follows:
  • 1. Registration form
  • 2. Assessment Summary and Score Sheets
  • 3. Each Lesson Plan for lab programs 2-4  (in order)
  • 4. Each reflection/evaluation log for lab programs 2-4 (in order)
  • 5. Final Summary of child's assessment and progress during the lab sessions.
  • 6. Copy of letter to parents.   Original copy of letter should be in folder pocket, signed and ready to send to parents.
  • 7. Cd-rom movie.  Original in folder, copy to parents.
  • The final summary should consist of the following: Write a report regarding the child's progress over the past 5 weeks.  Include in the report a discussion of the child's initial performance levels on each of the motor skills, a summary of the goals and objectives you worked on during the 5 weeks; the learning activities you employed to assist the child in achieving his goals;  and a discussion of the child's progress (was the child able to accomplish the goals, did the child improve toward mature performance levels on the components of the assessment, etc). The report must be typed and presented in good form.
  • Parent letter: Write a letter to the parents of your child summarizing the child's progress and include recommendations for activities which the parents can do with their child to encourage their child's progress.  Make sure you include positive comments about the child.  Always try to emphasize the positive when communicating with parents about their children.  But also include obstacles that might have impeded progress; such as short attention span, dislike for an activity, etc.  Again, end on a positive note.  Thank the parents for letting their child participate in the program. The letter must be typed and in good form.  Check for spelling and grammatical errors before submitting.
  • CD-rom imovie of the student performing his/her motor skills in the clinic.  You will make two copies of the cd-rom- one for your folder and one to send home to the parents.   We will go over the guidelines in class.
