College of Education Information

I am currently serving as the Interim Chair of the Department of Elementary, Middle, and Secondary Programs in the College of Education at NorthernKentucky University (Go Norse!).  I earned my doctorate from the University of Cincinnati (Go Bearcats!),  my bachelor and masters degrees from the University of North Carolina (Go Tarheels!) .

This semester I am teaching PHE 330 (Motor Development).

 I am also the Managing Editor of the Adapted Physical Education Section of the PE Central website.  Check it out- it's a great site for information on any questions you might have about health and physical education!

I also serve as the Advisor for the PE/Rec Majors Club in the College of Education at Northern Kentucky University.  If you are interested in joining our club or finding out more information please email me:  ryanc@nku.edu

Personal Information

I am married to Dave Ryan; he works for IBM.  Dave and I just celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary on June 22, 2003.  We have three children, Michael, Kevin, and Katie.  Michael graduated from the University of Florida (Go Gators!)  with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering.  He is now attending the University of Texas (Go Longhorns!), where he is working on his doctorate in aerospace engineering. He wants to design rockets- so I guess there really are rocket scientists!

Kevin just graduated from The Ohio State University (Go Buckeyes!), with a degree electrical and computer science engineering.  He is continuing his studies at Ohio State, working on his Masters' Degree in electrical and computer science engineering.  He has become very involved in the Ultimate Frisbee Club team at OSU.  They made it to the National Collegiate tournament last year, where they ended up 11th out of 16 teams.  It's really a great fitness and social activity- you should look into joining a team near you!

Katie is in her sophomore year at  The Ohio State University (Go Buckeyes!).  She is majoring in marketing and management.  She is also a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and an ardent fan of the Ohio State football team- the reigning NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!

My hobbies are watching my children's sporting events, reading, and traveling.  We just returned from a 2 week trip out west touring Glacier and Yellowstone National parks.  It was a great trip- filled with fantastic scenery, wildlife, and great hikes.

My most consuming hobby, though,  is GARDENING!  I love to work in my flower garden- planting any and all kinds of flowers!  I add to my perennial garden each year, but I still love to plant annuals- they bring so much vibrant color into the garden on a daily basis.  Spring is my favorite time of year though- when all the spring bulbs are in bloom and summer is around the corner!
