Cost-Sharing Contributions

Policy for Cost Sharing on Grants (Also called "Matching Funds"):

  • When the relevant dean or vice-president signs the Routing Form to indicate that the grant is for an initiative valued by the university, the university will cost share (provide matching funds) to the extent required by the grant program.
  • To the extent possible, in-kind matches will be made rather than cash matches.
  • For cash matches, Research, Grants and Contracts (RGC) will allocate matching funds, provided that the relevant department, dean or vice-president shares in providing the cash match.

Over-Matches:

  • When there is compelling evidence that a cash over-match - one that exceeds the program requirements- will significantly increase the likelihood that a proposal is funded, the Associate Provost for Research/Dean of Graduate Studies may approve an over-match using RGC's matching account.
  • Over-matches may be provided from other accounts with the approval of the relevant account director.
  • There is no limitation on over-matching with in-kind dollars.
