Distance Learning
Extended Campus Sites
Off-campus learning sites provide additional opportunities for NKU students to enroll in classes. Students can complete General Education courses or work on selected academic programs at extended campus sites including the NKU Covington Campus, NKU Grant County Center, and more. For a current list of off-campus learning opportunities or to learn more about extended campus sites, please visit the Adult and Non-Traditional Learning website.
Online Programs and Courses
NKU offers a growing list of fully online academic programs. For a current list and to view technology requirements for all online programs, please visit the Distance Learning website. Students in online majors are eligible to register for appropriate courses designated with an "I" section prefix.
In addition, hundreds of fully online course sections are offered each semester and are designated with a "I", "J", or "W" section prefix. For more information about selecting or registering for online courses that fit your personal degree plan, please contact your academic advisor. To view technology requirements for fully online courses, please visit the Distance Learning website.
Web-enhanced courses offer opportunities for students to further their NKU college education. Web-enhanced courses have an "N" section prefix and require that students have access to the Internet to complete course requirements. Students meet more than 20% of the time face-to-face with the instructor at the regularly scheduled class time. Students should be prepared to communicate via email with the instructor on the first day of the class. Please visit Distance Learning website for more information and to view the technology requirements for all web-based and web-enhanced courses.
Telecourses
Telecourses require that students view weekly programs via television or CD-Rom, then complete assignments using a text and study guide. All telecourses have a "T" section prefix. Students may be required to come to campus (usually 3-5 times) to review course objectives and take exams. Streaming broadcasts are available via the Internet and on the university's cable channel (Ch. 18) on Insight Communication in Northern Kentucky. Students who do not have TV Cable access may view a reserved copy in NKU's Steely Library or rent a CD-Rom or VHS from www.rmimedia.com.
