Student Organizations

The Political Science & Criminal Justice Department sponsors student organizations that are affiliated with different programs of study.

Xi Omega 

Xi Omega is the local chapter of the Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society. It is open to political science or international studies majors and minors who meet the following requirements:

  • Maintain a 3.25 GPA or higher in political science or international studies courses;
  • Complete 10 credit hours of political science coursework;
  • Maintain an overall GPA of 3.00.

Zeta Pi Gamma

Zeta Pi Gamma is the local chapter of the Alpha Phi Sigma National Criminal Justice Honor Society. It is open to majors and minors who are recommended by the chapter advisor and meet the following requirements:

  • Completed one-third of the total hours required for graduation;
  • Maintain a minimum 3.2 GPA overall and 3.2 GPA in criminal justice courses;
  • Graduate students are required to maintain a minimum 3.4 GPA overall and in criminal justice courses;
  • Students enrolled in law school must complete one academic year with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

Model United Nations Club

The Model United Nations Club provides students and the Northern Kentucky University community a greater understanding of how the United Nations works. Through the Model U.N. Club, members will enhance international understanding and develop educational and practical experiences in world politics. The Model U.N. Club will be the venue for building an art of peaceful negotiation among potential national and international leaders in the world. 

They have weekly meetings to discuss global,  political, and economic issues; and prepare for international and national Model UN conferences. They have participated in the American Model United Nations Conference in Chicago and the Midwest Model UN Conference in St. Louis. The group has represented various countries, such as India, Germany, China, Australia, Barbados, and Bolivia.

Lambda Alpha Epsilon

Lambda Alpha Epsilon, established in 1937, is a national organization for students and professionals to promote high standards of ethical conduct, professional training, and higher education within the criminal justice profession. Membership is open to all students having declared a criminal justice major or minor.

Students have the opportunity to train and compete in regional and national competitions such as crime scene, firearms, physical agility and academic competitions.

Public Administration Student Society

Public Administration Student Society is an organization created to enhance the Master in Public Administration student experience as well as represent the graduate program.

PASS is open to any MPA student in good standing. Meetings are scheduled each month for approximately 30 minutes. The society provides opportunities for networking and serves as an excellent resume builder. Members participate in community service projects and schedule guest lectures on topics of interest to MPA students.

The current PASS president is Glenn Laws (lawsg@nku.edu). The organization is also listed on the NKU Student Life website.

Phi Alpha Delta

Phi Alpha Delta is an international law fraternity that offers a special program to serve pre-law students. PAD offers students advice on attending law school, exposes them to current topics of debate and critical issues in the field of law.
