Amy Thistlethwaite
Amy Thistlethwaite is an associate professor of criminal justice. She earned her BA in criminal justice from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, her MA from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and a PhD from the University of Cincinnati. Amy has eighteen years of teaching experience, twelve of which have been at NKU. She currently teaches introduction to criminal justice for the department as well as perspectives on crime, rights of the convicted and criminal justice in film. Her research interests include domestic violence, sentencing, and corrections. Her published research has appeared in such journals as Criminology, Journal of Quantitative Criminology, Crime and Delinquency and Public Health Reports. She co-authored a book titled “Forty Studies that Changed Criminal Justice: Explorations into the History of Criminal Justice Research” for which she is working on the second edition. Amy currently serves on NKU’s Academic Advising Council, Gateway Community and Technical College’s Criminal Justice Advisory Board, and the Campbell County Criminal Justice Advisory Committee. She also worked on the development and implementation of the Northern Kentucky Regional Mental Health Court.
What I like most about the political science and criminal justice department are its students. We have some of the brightest, enthusiastic, and motivated students at NKU. I consider it a privilege to teach here and I am continually impressed by the students’ dedication to their academic careers.
