Amy Thistlethwaite

Amy Thistlethwaite is an associate professor of criminal justice. She earned her bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, her Master's Degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and a Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati.

Amy has 15 years of teaching experience, nine of which have been at NKU. She currently teaches Introduction to Criminal Justice for the department as well as perspectives on crime, rights of the convicted and criminal justice in film.

Her research interests include domestic violence, sentencing and corrections. Her published research has appeared in such journals as Criminology, Journal of Quantitative Criminology, Crime and Delinquency and Public Health Reports. Her book entitled "Forty Studies that Changed Criminal Justice: Explorations into the History of Criminal Justice Research" is scheduled to be published in January 2009.

Amy serves on the Campbell County Criminal Justice Advisory Committee and is currently working on the implementation of a mental health court for the Northern Kentucky region.

What she likes most about the Political Science and Criminal Justice Department are its students. "We have some of the brightest, enthusiastic and motivated students at NKU," she notes. "I consider it a privilege to teach here and I am continually impressed by the students' dedication to their academic careers."
