Clinton Hewan

Dr. Clinton Hewan has been teaching in the Department of Political Science at NKU since 1988. He has taught courses in Comparative Government, American Government, International Politics, International Law, International Organizations, U. S. Foreign Policy and the Developing World, Canadian Politics and Foreign Policy, Government and Politics in Africa; and State and Local Politics.

Dr. Hewan completed all of his post secondary education at the University of Cincinnati. He received a B.A. in Political Science and Economics and then followed up with the completion of his M.A. in Foreign Affairs and International Relations. He then returned to his homeland of Jamaica where he had an extensive administrative career in the Jamaican Diplomatic Corp. He held positions in the government that included: Counsellor of Political, Trade and Economic Affairs at the Embassy of Jamaica; Deputy Director of the Protocol and Consular Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and the Deputy High Commissioner (Minister Counsellor) & Head of Chancery at the Jamaica High Commission in Canada. Dr. Hewan then returned to the University of Cincinnati and completed his Ph.D. in Political Science and International Relations.

Dr. Hewan’s government career took him to various international locations that added greatly to his depth of knowledge and educational experience. He has spent time in all of the following locations: Caracas, Venezuela, Brazil, Columbia, Peru, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Israel, Egypt, and Ottawa, Canada.

Dr. Hewan has done extensive research and had several publications on U.S. foreign policy and various Caribbean nations. He is currently working on a book titled, Politics and International Relations of Jamaica, Trinidad, Tobago, and Barbados: From Colonialism to Independence.
