Liza Benham

Not only am I among the newcomers to the NKU Department of Political Science & Criminal Justice, I am a newcomer to academia. My appointment in 2007 as assistant professor of political science came after other career pursuits, including more than 20 years as a print journalist. I returned to school to earn the Master of Public Administration degree and later the Ph.D. in political science.

My broad research interest is race, class and gender in American politics.  I developed a new course in Black Presidential Campaigns and have taught Introduction to American Politics, Political Parties and Elections, Race, Class and Gender in the United States and the American Presidency.

I am the author of a book, From Winning Elections to Influencing Policy, and am working on several journal articles and conference papers.
Hobbies include contract bridge and cooking.
