Mission Statement and Introduction

Alpha Beta Phi Chapter is Northern Kentucky University's chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the International Honor Society in History. Phi Alpha Theta was organized on March 17, 1921, at the University of Arkansas. There are over 740 chapters in colleges and universities in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, and the Philippine Islands. The purposes of Phi Alpha Theta are to recognize students with outstanding academic achievement and to promote the study of history. The organization sponsors a biennial national convention and regional conferences meet annually. The headquarters publishes a newsletter and a scholarly journal, The Historian.

Alpha Beta Phi Chapter publishes the scholarly journal Perspectives in History, a newsletter, and holds regular monthly meetings with an established agenda. The Chapter and the History and Geography Department sponsor lectures, which are open to the public. For members and students at Northern Kentucky University, the Chapter sponsors field trips and other activities. Each year the Chapter holds a used book sale in March.
