The Northern
Kentucky Writing Project operates under the four major goals of the
National Writing Project:
1.
To improve student
writing and learning in kindergarten through university classrooms
2.
To extend the uses of
writing in all disciplines
3.
To provide schools,
colleges, and universities with an effective professional development
model
4.
To identify, celebrate,
and enhance the professional role of successful classroom teachers.
We offer a summer
invitational institute for teachers each summer, continue through the
year with follow-up sessions, and provide outreach and continuity
activities for teachers throughout the region during the year. Through
these and other activities, we hope to play a role in helping teachers
accomplish the following:
- Enhanced writing instruction
- Greater teacher leadership
- Better supported literacy
programs
- Increased writing proficiency
for all students
- Expanded education learning
communities about writing instruction
- Varied and ongoing
professional development in literacy for teachers of all grade
levels and content areas
- Increased writing by teachers,
as writing can best be understood by participating in the process
- Quality continuity with
colleagues, bringing teachers together to examine successful
practices and new developments
- Expanded leadership, programs,
and research needed for teachers to help their students become
successful writers and learners
- Shared and utilized knowledge
to improve students’ achievement and to support teachers in the
teaching of writing.
