4 Things Kayla Hopes Freshmen Take From the Book

  1. BE AWARE OF THE CHANGING ROLE OF WOMEN IN SOCIETY- As society changes, the military changes. Challenges that women face in the military are not exclusive to the military or war.
  2. WE NEED TO TAKE CARE OF OUR VETERANS- We all have a role in the war, ours is to take care of our returning soldiers and make sure they get what they need. We need to VOTE to make changes.
  3. WE HAVE A PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY- That responsibility is to serve the larger community. The Army's fundamental core values: Duty, Service and Sacrifice. Why should those values stop with the army? We (as the people of this nation) have a duty to give back to the larger community.
  4. CIVILIZATION CLASH- It's easy to have a "US v THEM" mentality if you dehumanize the "enemy". We need to appreciate diversity and communicate- work past our different cultures and get to basic human rights.
