WHAT IS RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGY? The Radiologic Technology Program at NKU has been in existence since 1977, at which time it was reorganized from a certificate program at St. Elizabeth Medical Center to the current associate degree program here at the University. Since that time, the program has graduated many professional radiologic technologists who are at work in all aspects of the career field. The Radiologic Technology Program prepares students for entry level work in the radiology specialty of diagnostic radiography, which is one of the imaging modalities in the field of Radiologic Technology. Radiography involves the use of radiation to provide images of the tissues, organs, bones, and vessels of the body. The radiographer (radiologic technologist) is responsible for preparing patients for radiologic examinations, positioning the patient for the examinations, selecting the appropriate amount of x-ray exposure, processing the images, evaluating image quality, and assisting the radiologist during fluoroscopic procedures. Additional policies and procedures of the program are published in the Radiologic Technology Student Handbook. Copies of this book are available for review in the program office (AHC 227) and in Steely Library. The NKU Radiologic Technology Program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. | ||||
