FALL 1998 :
MKT 480 MARKETING STRATEGIES
Wednesday, 2:30-5:15 p.m. BEP 110
Text: Marketing Strategies, Kerin and Peterson
This course is required for Marketing majors. It is the senior capstone case course. Prerequisites: MKT 305, MKT 320, MKT 360 and certification of major.
So....what's a "case course"? In a case course, students are provided with a detailed profile of an organization and the environment in which it operates: e.g competition, channel, technology and so on. Students analyze the firm and its environment, and MAKE MARKETING DECISIONS .
So....what 's the course like for students? The early material in the course dismays many students because we spend so much time working on basic financial calculations, but this financial review lays the foundation for marketing analysis. For the rest of the semester, we work on marketing decision-making: market segmentation and target marketing, the marketing mix, marketing strategies. All recommendations must describe the financial consequences of the recommendation for the organization--that's why we do all the financial review at the beginning of the semester.
