In The News

A SAD LOSS FOR NKU MUSIC

Many of you have already heard the tragic news that Nick Stutsman, one of our music majors, died in his home earlier this month. Those of you who knew Nick understood that he was an incredible clarinetist with a great musical gift. He transferred to NKU from U of L and became a valuable presence in our band program. While Nick was often quiet and soft-spoken, there is no question that his voice resonated with emotion and confidence through his clarinet. He was kind and always the first to volunteer his time for our program. This is a great loss for the musical world and a sad and tragic day for all of us.

WELCOME NEW FACULTY

We would like to announce two new faculty who will be joining us this fall. Please find a moment to welcome Dan Dorff, Adjunct Professor of Jazz Drum Set, and Katie Barton, Adjunct Professor and Conductor of the Northern Chorale and Women’s Choir. Both of these individuals bring a wealth of talent and experience to NKU and we look forward to having them as part of our team this fall.

BRASS METHODS COURSE MOVED TO FALL

For those of you who still need to complete the Brass Methods course (required for instrumental music ed. majors), we will be offering this course in the coming semester (Fall 2010) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:05-4:20. Please note that this course WILL NOT be offered in the spring. If you need to take it this year, now is your chance. The course should be opening up in MYNKU within the week. Look for MUS 241 (this is a one credit course).

INSTRUMENTS FOR SINGERS, GUITARISTS, and PIANISTS (MUS 249)

For those of you who are Music Ed Vocal/Choral or Music Ed Piano/Choral, remember that you need to complete MUS 249 as part of your degree requirements. We are offering this course during the fall only. If you need to take it, the course meets T/TH from 9:25-10:40.

MUSIC STUDENT WELCOME DAY

Don’t forget that if you are on scholarship, you are expected to attend the new student welcome day which takes place on Thursday, August, 19 from 9:00-2:00. We are looking for a few student performers who might wish to be featured in the morning session. Please let Dr. Sander know if you are interested.
