Submit administrative announcement (president and VP only) Suggestion for improving Midweek Subscribing/unsubscribing |
Subscribing to NKU mailing listsNew employees don’t automatically receive Campus Digest and Midweek – they must subscribe themselves to receive campus news. Once subscribed, employees stay subscribed as long as the e-mail address provided is valid or until they use the automated system to unsubscribe themselves. Subscribing and unsubscribing are done from a single web page unique to each mailing list. All of the subscribe/unsubscribe web pages follow the same format: http://listserv.nku.edu/mailman/listinfo/NAMEOFMAILINGLIST. You can tell the name of the mailing list by looking at the “TO” information on your e-mail. For example, Midweek is sent to nkuall@listserv.nku.edu, so the subscribe/unsubscribe web page would be http://listserv.nku.edu/mailman/listinfo/nkuall. The graphical version of Campus Digest is sent to CampusDigest@listserv.nku.edu, so the subscribe/unsubscribe web page would be http://listserv.nku.edu/mailman/listinfo/campusdigest. The text-only version of Campus Digest (no graphics or pretty formatting) is sent to CampDigTextOnly@listserv.nku.edu, so the subscribe/unsubscribe web page would be http://listserv.nku.edu/mailman/listinfo/campdigtextonly. Most NKU mailing lists require that a subscriber confirm that he/she does, indeed, want to be subscribed. For example, when subscribing to nkuall, the person subscribing receives an e-mail at the address provided to the website and must click a link in the e-mail to A) verify that the e-mail address is valid and B) confirm that the person has not been maliciously added to a mailing list. Some mailing lists also require confirmation upon unsubscribing. Just because a person has authority to send to a mailing list doesn’t give that person authority to perform maintenance on the mailing list itself. Each mailing list has an “owner” who is responsible for maintaining the list. So if you send an e-mail to the Midweek account asking to be removed from the nkuall mailing list, the person who does Midweek can’t help you because that person isn’t the owner of the mailing list. The same is true for any NKU mailing list. Quite often the owner of the list rarely/never sends e-mail to the list. Your best bet for subscribing and unsubscribing is to use the automated web pages as described above (http://listserv.nku.edu/mailman/listinfo/NAMEOFMAILINGLIST). However, sometimes you absolutely have to reach the person responsible for maintaining the mailing list. In that case, you’ll want to send an e-mail to NAMEOFMAILINGLIST-owner@listserv.nku.edu. Questions about NKU mailing lists should be directed to the IT help desk at X-6911. Produced by the NKU Office of Marketing and Communications, 2011.
