Business Program
The
Major
Sports
Business is the multidisciplinary study of business principles and processes
applied to the sports industry. The undergraduate major in Sport
Business is a College of Business major supported by courses in the Communications
Department and Physical Education. The
program is designed to prepare students for a variety of career and leadership
opportunities in sport business and recreational management. These fields
include event suppliers, event management and marketing, sports media,
sports sponsorship, athlete services, sports commissions, sports lawyers,
manufacturers and distribution, facilities and facility suppliers, teams,
leagues, college athletics, and finance. Program objectives prepare
the student for the demands involved in the operation of sport programs
at various levels.

In addition to other university requirements (such as general
studies and general or graduation or assessment requirements), Sports Business

By completing the required
courses *ACC 200, *ACC 201, *ECO 200, *ECO 201, *IFS 105, FIN 305, MGT
305 and MKT 305, Sports Business majors will also be awarded a minor
in Business Administration
Sports Business is a selective
admissions major. On initial entry to the program, students will
be classified as pre-sports business majors. To certify a major in
Sports Business, students must complete ENG 101 Composition I, ENG 291
Advanced Writing, SPE 101 Principles of Speech Communication and the
courses marked with an asterisk above with an overall, cumulative GPA of
at least 2.50 and complete the appropriate Certification of Major form.
The Sports Business Advisory Board
An
advisor board (see below) has already been established to create and provide
input into the Sports Business program. This advisory board will
serve as a powerful link to the sports business network in the Greater
Cincinnati area.
