Dr. Beasley received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland.  He teaches principles of marketing, marketing research, and marketing strategy, and his research interests are in the areas of consumer price promotions and marketing education.

Dr. Carrell is dean of the College of Business.  He received his doctorate from the University of Kentucky, and M.B.A. and B.A. in Economics from the University of Louisville.  Most of his professional career has been spent in the Louisville area and has included positions as a personnel director and labor negotiator.   In addition, he was elected to the City of Louisville Board of Aldermen for five terms, and served as President of the Board and Mayor Pro-tem for three terms.  Dr. Carrell has held academic positions at California State University, Bakersfield; The University of Nebraska - Omaha, Marshall University, Morehead State University, and the University of Louisville.  He has authored of 50 scholarly works in some of the leading management and human resource journals including The Academy of Management Journal, The Academy of Management Review, Organizational Behavior and Human Performance, Personnel Journal, The Personnel Administrator, HR Magazine, Labor Law Journal, Business Forum, Personnel, The Journal of Accountancy and Training, and Public Personnel Management.  Textbooks published by Dr. Carrell are in the fields of collective bargaining and labor relations, human resource management, organizational behavior, and negotiations.  During his academic career he has received awards for both outstanding research and teaching.

Dr. Conway Dato-on is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at Northern Kentucky University.  She received her Ph.D. in Marketing at University of Kentucky, her Masters in International Marketing and Management at Denver University, and her BA from Bradley University.  Dr. Conway Dato-on’s work experience includes four years as an Area Marketing Manager for Ford Motor Company, three years in Japan as an International Communications Trainer, and four years as a Corporate Trainer for Xavier University specializing in Japanese management and cross-cultural transition issues. Her teaching service spans two continents including an Assistant Professor of Marketing position at Xavier University, a Teaching Assistant assignment in the Marketing Area at University of Kentucky, and a Marketing Instructor at the Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines. During her time in the Philippines, she served as a Corporate Consultant with John Clements Consultants, Inc. and as Marketing Director for a Philippine Mahogany Door Manufacturer where she helped establish their first sales branch in the United Kingdom.  Dr. Conway Dato-on’s research interests include cross-cultural consumer behavior, as well as gender and ethics in marketing.  Throughout her academic career her emphasis has been and continues to be on international issues.

Dr. Dalakas joined the College of Business in Fall 2004 after five years at Berry College in Georgia.  He has also taught a course at the Monterey Institute of International Studies and has served as a marketing consultant for the small Pacific nation of Palau.  He received his undergraduate degree from Hanover College, his Master’s from Indiana University, and his doctorate in marketing from the University of Oregon.  His teaching interests are in the areas of consumer behavior and sports marketing.  His research has addressed issues pertaining to consumer behavior, cross-cultural marketing, sponsorship, and sports marketing.  It has been published in journals like the Journal of Business Research, the Journal of Consumer Psychology, the Journal of Consumer Marketing, Sport Marketing Quarterly, International Journal of Sports Marketing & Sponsorship, and the Journal of Euro-Marketing.  He has also presented his work in conferences like the Association for Consumer Research, the Society for Consumer Psychology, the North American Society for Sport Management, and the Association of Marketing Theory and Practice.

Dr. Ford joined NKU’s Management & Marketing faculty in Fall 2001.  Previously, he was a visiting assistant professor of operations management and entrepreneurship at the University of Cincinnati.  Ford earned his PhD in operations management from the University of Cincinnati, and a BS in applied science from Miami University.  Prior to his academic career, Ford secured twelve years of operations and corporate management experience at Consolidated Papers, Inc, a manufacturer of enamel coated printing papers since acquired by Stora Enso Oyj.  Ford’s academic honors include awards for both outstanding teaching and scholarship, including receipt of The Sandy Easton Outstanding Teacher Award, an honor bestowed by NKU College of Business Students, in both 2003 and 2004.  Dr. Ford has taught a variety of undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in operations management, business administration, entrepreneurship, and international business.  His research interests include strategic operations, quality management, entrepreneurship, and the management and control of change.  Dr. Ford’s peer reviewed publications include entries in International Journal of Operations & Production Management, Quality Management Journal, Business Horizons, Frontiers of Entrepreneurship, Journal of Engineering & Technology Management, Center for Quality of Management Journal, Handbook of Entrepreneurial Dynamics, and Journal of Change Management

Professor Gamble joined the College of Business faculty this fall as the inaugural director of the Sports Business Program he helped found.  Professor Gamble comes to NKU after spending nearly two decades working in various aspects of Sports Business in Greater Cincinnati. Most recently, Gamble served as Vice President of Don Schumacher & Associates, Inc., a Cincinnati-based sports marketing, management, communications and consulting firm. 

Professor Gamble also has extensive experience in both broadcast and print media.  He continues to co-host a morning drive-time radio show on WCKY-AM (1360), and was the former Sports Editor of The Kentucky Post, Northern Kentucky’s largest circulation daily. 

A Cincinnati native, Professor Gamble received his Master of Education in Sports Administration from Xavier University in 1991, where he later served as an Adjunct Instructor at the graduate level for five years.  Gamble’s teachings included Sports Marketing, Sports Fundraising, Event Management and Promotion, and Public Relations and Communication in Sport.  He also was responsible for coordination and direction of the student Internship program.

Dr. Rich Gilson joined the Department of Management and Marketing in Fall 2001.  He received his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2002, specializing in Organizational Behavior.  He has a Master of Social Science degree in Human Resource Management from Utah State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Weber State University.  Rich is currently teaching the Behavior in Organizations and Human Resource Administration courses.

Rich’s work experience includes work as a training facilitator, as a senior R&D chemical technician, and as an account manager.  He has worked for several large organizations, notably Thiokol Corp. and Morton International.  Prior to that, Rich served as an Army field artillery officer and attained the rank of Captain before transferring into the Inactive Reserve.

 Rich has conducted and presented research in several areas including innovation in work teams, individual creativity, psychological engagement at work, and computer learning.  He is also interested in workplace democracy, procedural justice, intrinsic motivation, and employee rights.  His published research appears in the Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology and the Journal of Educational Computing Research.

Dr. Greer is joining NKU as an Assistant Professor. She has spent time as a visiting Assistant Professor at Bowling Green State University , an Assistant Professor at Oakland University and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Detroit-Mercy. She has a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Business of Administration from the University of Toledo. Her Ph.D. is from Kent State University. Dr. Greer has over 10 years in Engineering experience as a plant, process and production engineer. Dr. Greer has spent her career in manufacturing and dealing with manufacturing issues. She has worked at Timken Roller Bearing, Chrysler-Jeep and Ford Motor Company. Dr. Greer’s research interests concern Supply Chain Management, Total Quality, Engineers in management and Diversity.

Professor Hertz is a 1983 graduate of the University of Kentucky and a 1989 Graduate of the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University (NKU). He is licensed to practice law in Kentucky and Ohio. Professor Hertz began teaching an entrepreneurship course entitled New Venture Creation as a part-time faculty member in January 2000.He is now a full-time Lecturer of Entrepreneurship at the Fifth Third Bank Entrepreneurship Institute, housed within NKU’s College of Business

Professor Hertz teaches Fundamentals of Management and Marketing, Legal Environment, New Venture Creation, Emerging Enterprise Law, Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Field Studies in Entrepreneurial Firms.  His research interests are in the area of entrepreneurship education.

Dr. Hughes received her BS in Marketing and an MBA in International Business from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, PA.  She received her Ph.D. in International Business/Strategic Management at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.  Prior to her teaching position at NKU, Dr. Hughes served as Chief Executive Officer for ABX Central, a leading electronic purchasing community for institutional athletic buyers.  Her professional career in international economic analysis began with a two-year assignment as a Foreign Service Officer in Washington, D.C.

Professor Kent has been an instructor of management at NKU since August, 1986.  He holds undergraduate degrees in Management and Political Science and received his M.B.A. degree in Management from the University of Cincinnati.  Primarily an educator who also consults, he teaches management courses (e.g., the skills-based "Human Resources Administration") and general business courses (e.g., the "External Context for Business").  He provides academic advising and is also faculty advisor to the Business Management Alliance student organization.  His teaching philosophy reflects his belief that learning is natural, enjoyable, and can lead to both personal fulfillment and societal enrichment.

Dr. Levin joined the faculty in August, 2000, after serving for 3 years as an assistant professor at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.  He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa, his M.B.A. from Northern Illinois University and his Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky Dr. Levin's teaching interests include marketing research, advertising and promotion, electronic commerce.  Dr. Levin's recent research has focused on the impact of sports sponsorship on consumers' recall of sponsoring brands.  His research has appeared in the Journal of Consumer Psychology, Marketing Letters, and Advances in Consumer Research.  In addition, he has presented papers at the following national conferences:  American Marketing Association, Association of Marketing Theory and Practice, and the Association for Business Simulation and Experiential Learning.

Dr. Miller received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas in 1970.  After working in both the private and public sectors for a few years, he returned to university studies initially at the University of Missouri which granted him an M.B.A. in 1975 and finally at the University of New Mexico where he earned an M.A. and then a Ph.D. in 1984.  In 1988, he was awarded a Fulbright Research Scholarship to Central America, which provided an immersion into business strategies within emerging economies.  While there, he examined the business strategies of both international and domestic firms in five essential industries for that region.  Though most of his work has been in Latin America, Dr. Miller has also engaged in research about Asian business issues, which were published in the Journal of Asian Business and Japanese Distribution Strategy.  A business strategy case about the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline in emerging Central Asia has recently been released by the European Case Clearing House.  In November 2002, Dr. Miller coordinated a Maquiladora Research Conference at the University of Texas at El Paso where a group of nine Mexican and United States shared their research findings about NAFTA and the Maquiladora Program.  As a result of the conference, he is editing a book to be published by Texas Western Press.

Dr. Mittal's recent undergraduate course offerings have included advertising and promotion and consumer behavior and services marketing.  He has also taught M.B.A. classes in marketing management and marketing in the services sector.  He holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, an M.B.A. in marketing (both from universities in India), and a Ph.D. in marketing from the University of Pittsburgh.  He has previously been on the faculty of SUNY, Buffalo and the University of Miami.  His research has focused on consumer perceptual and decision processes and on the management of customer response, especially in the services sector.

 

Dr. Stephen Mueller

Dr. Mueller joined the NKU Management and Marketing Faculty in fall 2004. He has previously served on the faculty at Texas Christian University and Florida International University where he taught a variety of undergraduate and MBA courses in entrepreneurship, strategic management, and international business. Dr. Mueller received his Ph.D. in International Management Studies at University of Texas at Dallas. He also holds an MBA from University of Texas at Arlington, a Masters in Accounting from the University of Texas at Dallas, and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University. Prior to joining academia, Dr. Mueller accumulated 15 years of general management and entrepreneurship experience in the computer industry. His research on entrepreneurship is international in scope and has been published in several of the leading management and entrepreneurial journals including Academy of Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Business Venturing, and Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship.

Dr. Myers was educated at Birmingham University in the UK, and at Indiana University, where she received her M.B.A. and Ph.D.  She teaches principles of marketing, marketing strategy, and electives in international, ethics, and not-for-profit marketing.  Her research interests focus on marketing history, especially as it involves women and minorities, and on the cultural significance of marketing activities.  She has also taught in the Honors Program and in Women's Studies at NKU.  She serves as an academic advisor to marketing majors and minors.

Dr, Recker currently serves an Assistant Professor of Labor Relations at Northern Kentucky University. He received his Doctorate in Education from the University of Cincinnati and his MBA from Xavier University.  Dr. Recker began his teaching career in August of 1979 and has taught a variety of courses at the graduate and the under-graduate level including human resource management, intro to labor relations and supervisory management.

He has authored several articles addressing employee motivation.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Recker has consulted for many organizations and is highly involved in the business community.  He is an active member of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and serves on many committees.  Prior to his academic career, Dr. Recker worked as a first-line supervisor and as a Production and Inventory Control Manager.  He is married to his wife Teresa and they have three children.

Dr. Rhee joined the M&M faculty for the Fall 1999 semester after teaching at the Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland.  He received a B.A. in Chemistry from Johns Hopkins University, a M.S. in Chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a M.B.A. from Boston University, and a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from Case Western Reserve University.  His main areas of research are competency development, adult development, and leadership.  Dr. Rhee has consulted for many Fortune 500 companies as well as government agencies.  He has also authored several articles on emotional intelligence and self-directed behavior change and competencies.  He is also a contributing author of a book entitled Innovations in Professional Education: Steps on a Journey from Teaching to Learning.

Dr. Shank joined the faculty in August, 1991, after having served for a year as a visiting professor at the University of Mississippi.   Prior to teaching at Ole Miss, Dr. Shank was a marketing research manager at Maritz Motivation Company in St. Louis, MO.  He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wyoming and received his Ph.D. in experimental psychology from the University of Missouri at St. Louis in 1988.  Dr. Shank's teaching interests include sports marketing, consumer behavior, and marketing research.  His research interests are in the areas of services marketing, marketing education, and sports marketing.  Dr. Shank's work has appeared in numerous publications including: the Journal of Professional Marketing, Journal of Applied Marketing Research, Advances in Consumer Research, Journal of Applied Business Research, Journal of Marketing Education, and Journal of Hospital Marketing.

Dr. Shaw joined NKU’s Marketing faculty in Fall 2002 and teaches courses in Personal Selling and Sales Management. Prior to this, she was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Marketing at Kent State University, which is also where she received her Ph.D. She received a B.B.A. in Operations Analysis from the University of Toledo and an M.B.A. from Baldwin-Wallace College. Dr. Shaw has over 15 years of marketing and sales experience. She spent the majority of her business career at IBM Corporation, and also worked for AT&T and Andersen Consulting. Her research focuses on how information technologies can be utilized to improve sales effectiveness, customer and vendor relations, and small business performance.

Dr. Sigler received her Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She has an MBA and a BS in Purchasing and Operations Management from Bowling Green State University. Dr. Sigler joins NKU after four years as an Assistant Professor at Western Washington University where she taught management, teamwork, organizational change, and organizational behavior classes. Her research interests include empowerment/teams, contingent workers, work/family issues, and assessing the impact of service learning in the classroom.  Her work has been published in the Journal of Vocational Behavior and the Journal of Quality Management.

Dr. Snyder is on leave from his faculty position to serve as the Executive Director of METS (Metropolitan Education and Training Services).  Prior to the opening of METS in September, 1999, Dr. Snyder served NKU for thirteen years as Chair of the Department of Management and Marketing.  His teaching specialties include organizational development and organization behavior; his research focuses on the impact of self-referent attitudes on work behavior.  Dr. Snyder has consulted on performance effectiveness issues with over 70 public and private sector organizations.  He is a fellow of the American Council of Education and has authored numerous articles that have been published in the top management journals in the U.S. and Great Britain.

 

Dr. Rebecca WhiteDr. Rebecca White

Dr. White received her Ph.D. in Management from Virginia Tech in 1994.   Prior to her teaching and research position at NKU, she taught management and marketing at Concord College and Bluefield State College.   She has also consulted with a number of small businesses and served as the manager of West Virginia University Hospital Medical Group Practice.  Her research and teaching interests are in the areas of strategic management and change and entrepreneurship.
