Might Mathematicians (P-4): Teaching and Learning P - 4 Mathematics Content through the NCTM Process Standards

This institute is open to elementary mathematics teachers (Primary-4) and students currently in grades 1, 2, or 3.  The institute will run from June 10 -14, 2002  and will include five follow-up sessions throughout the academic year.  Teachers will attend from 9 am - 1 pm June 10 - 14 and from 4:30 - 7:15 on five Tuesdays in the Fall. Students will attend from 10 am - noon June 10 - 14, 2002.

The institute will focus on inquiry-based teaching and learning in mathematics across the content strands using a variety of hands-on physical models and technology. The institute will be conducted in room 204 of the Business, Education, and Psychology building on NKU's main campus. This classroom is a mathematics laboratory setting which includes 12 student computer stations, 1 instructor computer with projection capabilities, a smart board, tables for small group work, and an abundance of physical models and calculators.

No Charge to Teachers or Children!

Each teacher will receive a $200 stipend, an overhead calculator, books, and a manipulatives kit. The course can be taken for 2 hours of credit if so desired.

Each primary student will receive a calculator and mathematics puzzle books.
