Professional Interest
I apply various types of mathematical models to provide insights into real life phenomena in several disciplines including continuum mechanics, geology and ecology. I have modeled the effects of human activities on basin sediment yields, and the transport and fate of heavy metals and other contaminants within rivers and lakes, both in the United States and abroad. Specifically, I created models to trace lead from both point and non-point sources of contamination, through river systems and into biota using lead isotopes with data gathered in Bolivia by my colleague Dr. Jerry Miller (CSIRO Land and Water, AU).
