Mathematics Major Requirements from 2004-05 Catalog

Core Courses

  • MAT 120 Calculus I (or MAT 121 and MAT 122)
  • MAT 220 Calculus II (or MAT 221 and MAT 222)
  • MAT 224 Introduction to Higher Mathematics
  • MAT 225 Linear Algebra
  • MAT 250 Probability and Statistics I
  • CSC 260, 260L Computer Programming I and Lab
  • MAT 320 Multivariable Calculus

Electives: One of the following sets of courses

  • Three 400 - level mathematics courses
    (Suggested for students planning graduate work in mathematics)
  • MAT 360, MAT 380, MAT 385
    (Suggested for students with a minor or a second major in computer science)
  • Three of MAT 325, MAT 330, MAT 360, MAT 430
    (Suggested for students interested in engineering or physical science)
  • Three of STA 314, STA 315, MAT/STA 340, STA 341
    (Suggested for students interested in probability and statistics)
  • MAT 300, MAT/STA 340, and either MAT 310 or MAT 410
    (Required for mathematics secondary education majors)

Additional Courses

  • Three additional credit hours in computer science, mathematics or statistics courses numbered above 225.

A grade of C or better is required in each course applied to the major.
