Many of the events are based off of the New
York Times Timeline: From Joseph Fourier to James Hansen, NOAA to I.P.C.C., and Kyoto
to Copenhagen, a look at the history of climate study and diplomacy in the modern age of
global warming. My thanks to the NYTimes; sad to say that this page is now effectively
deceased.
A
Climate Chronology, by Sharon S. Tisher (J.D., School of Economics and Honors College,
University of Maine) includes many excellent links and especially recent events (up to
2020). Here is a local copy. Prof. Tisher
is at work on a new project: climatechronology.com.
Much of my climate news comes from The Daily
Climate, whose wonderful subscription service clues me in to what's going on each
day. Please support climate news!

pdftotext (obtained
using poppler) allows one to convert pdfs to xml, without all the weird special characters.
The xml didn't like "&" in the text, and it needs to be replaced
by "&" in entries. It is especially
important to escape
"&" in URLs (and still be able to summon them!).
simile.mit.edu was where the timeline project originated, but it's
now archived and maintained by simile-widgets.org. The
documentation to create your own timeline is still
at mit,
however.
