Solar Dehydrator, built over three days, end of October, 2007
Built from these plans (source: http://littlecolorado.org/solar.htm)
- Getting ready:
- Chimney is on top in this view:
- Roger and assistant James did the work:
- Roger's almost got it done: we still need to cover the "pouvoir" with plastic, and build a stand to keep it out of the clutches of the ants and rats.
- Up closer: notice the bracing to hold the pouvoir in place. The top brace was placed on the outside: that way it doesn't impede airflow (but it doesn't look so hot). It's probably better to go that way, but in my design for next time I put them inside nonetheless -- what's wrong with me!? Form over function?
- The pouvoir: again, it needs its plastic covering (we'll do that when it's moved into place on its concrete pedestal).
- Close-up of chimney vent (with covering against the elements):
- Close-up of racks in place (we've got eight in this model, fewer than I'd like):
- Close-up of hot air entry point (notice internal brace blocking airflow, while external doesn't):
