What Is the Learning Resource Collection (LRC)? |
|
These pages for the LRC are no longer being updated. Please visit our new website at http://steely.nku.edu/lrc/.
The Learning Resource Collection (LRC) is composed of materials which support the programs of Northern Kentucky University's College of Education and Human Services. Materials in the LRC are appropriate for preschool through grade twelve and can be used with children in a teaching or tutorial environment. The LRC is located on the fourth floor of Steely Library.
The LRC is composed of two primary collections--the LRC LT collection which includes textbooks, computer programs, games and activities, puppets, and many other items; and the children's and young adult literature collection. The Y Books collection is a representative collection of the fiction and nonfiction literature being published for children and young adults. The name, Y Books, comes from the Y that precedes the call number for each item in this collection.
The state textbook adoption samples are a major component of the LRC LT collection. The subjects of these materials change each year depending on what curriculum areas the school districts throughout Kentucky are scheduled to update. From approximately September to April each year, these materials must be available for review by area school districts and can only be used in the library. Once the review process is completed, the adoption samples become part of the regular LRC LT collection. |
