Latino Student Mentor Program

Purpose: The purpose of the Latino Student Mentor Program is to promote and enhance the retention and academic success of Freshmen and transferring Latino students.

Criteria and Guidelines:  The Office of Latino Student Affairs will oversee this program with the assistance of faculty, staff, upperclass students and community members.  Coordination will be made by the Office of Latino Affairs to identify those students who qualify for this program.

Selection of Committee and Members:  Two members of the Latino Student Affairs Advisory Council will be asked to serve on this committee.  It is recommended that a faculty and a community member serve on this committee.  Mentors will be selected by the Mentor Program Committee and assigned a mentee.  The mentors will be required to meet with their mentees at least 3 to 5 times a semester.

Eligibility:  All entering Latino students are encouraged to take advantage of this program.  Students participating in this program will get insight from other students, faculty and staff, become better learners and improve their retention rate.
