Alternative Spring Break Programs

Mazamitla and Guadalajara (Jalisco), Mexico

March 3 - March 11, 2006

Project

NKU will invite ten (10) students to travel to Mazamitla (Jalisco), Mexico, to teach local residents how to use computers.  While in Mazamitla, these students will also have the opportunity to teach basic English to local residents and to participate in other service learning projects.

A second Alternative Spring Break program is planned for implementation in Guadalajara (Jalisco), Mexico.  Three to five students will be selected by Dr. Miriam Kannan of the Department of Biological Sciences for the purpose of shadowing a doctor in Guadalajara.

Only full-time, Spanish-speaking, upperclassmen with a minimum 2.5 GPA are eligible to participate.

This service learning project will provide the thirteen to fifteen (13-15) NKU students with exposure to another culture and constitute a valuable learning experience.
