FACTS ABOUT K-TAPIn
Kentucky, there is a program that can help families with dependent children. It
is the Kentucky Transitional Assisitance Program (K-TAP). K-TAP provides
temporary cash assistance to families with a dependent child who lacks the support
of one or both parents. K-TAP also helps the family find a job or receive training
that leads to a job. A family that includes an adult can receive K-TAP for only 60 months (5 years) in a lifetime. Every month the family receives K-TAP counts toward the 5-year limit. The family does not have to receive K-TAP for 5 years straight. The family can receive K-TAP for 2 years and stop. Later that same family can receive 3 more years. Any student enrolled in classes at NKU is eligible to participate in the K-TAP program on campus. Contact Gail Messmer, the Coordinator, at (859) 572-5988 or at messmerg1@nku.edu. Access to a confidential fax machine is also available for participants to fax paperwork to their DCBS office. The case manager from DCBS office is on-site with the program once a month. Contact the K-TAP Coordinator for a schedule of dates/times. K-TAP program is funded by a grant from the Cabinet for Health & Family Services.
