It is the mission of the printmaking BFA at Northern Kentucky University to graduate students who are proficient in a chosen  technique, who understand the breadth of printmaking processes, who are familiar with printmaking history and terminology, and who use printmaking as a vehicle for the development of a personal body of art work. Student should graduate with an ability to speak critically about their work and the work of others, and should be able to present their work in a professional manner.  Printmaking students should graduate with a strong  portfolio of quality work in print media suitable for application to graduate school or for other professional activities in the field.The Bachelor of Fine Arts with a Major in Printmaking at Northern Kentucky University can be accomplished in four years taking a full schedule.

Introduction to Printmaking, ART 272, which covers  processes and techniques in relief, monotype and intaglio. The student will lean to create a surface for printing (matrix), mix ink, print by hand and with a press, become familiar with print terminology, and develop an understanding and appreciation for the rich tradition of the fine art of printmaking.

Intermediate Printmaking, ART 373, is experimental in scope. The intermediate student will work in a chosen medium to begin development of personal imagery. The intermediate student may change print processes as the imagery dictates.

Techniques In Printmaking, Art 374, is a technique specific class. Individual courses offered in various printmaking procedures will be offered on a rotating basis.  Mixed-media printing, photo etching, screen printing, collagraphy, lithography, color intaglio and others will be offered as the interest dictates.

Advanced Printmaking, ART 474, is for the development of personal imagery and technique with the goal of developing  a cohesive body of work for the Senior exhibition. The advanced student will work on refinement of technique and on presentation skills.

Workshop In Printmaking ART 472, is for independent study.
