### Equal Addends, M 402

v.1 Take 8 snap cubes and share the 8 snap cubes equally between 2 people. Write the related addition sentence as "first group of cubes + second group of cubes = the total number of cubes." Find other numbers of cubes that can be shared equally between two people. Write the addition sentence for each.

v.2 Ask your partner to make a block figure w/ 2 equal rows. Count the number of blocks by twos and write the different addition sentences. Ex: if the block figure has 4 pairs & 2 rows of 4, write the addition of the pairs: 2+2+2+2=8 or write the addition of the 2 equal rows: 4+4=8.

v.3 Ask your partner to build a block figure with equal rows and cover one of the rows while you hide your eyes. Find the number of blocks by imagining the hidden row. Write the number sentence showing the addition of two equal rows.

v.4 Ask your partner to build a block figure with equal rows and cover the entire figure while you hide your eyes. Ask your partner to tell you how many blocks there are in each of the two rows. Imagine the figure and find the total number of blocks. Write the number sentence showing the addition of two equal rows.

v.5 "Go Fish." Each player takes 5 cards (w/out looking)(put extra cards face down) If any player has cards w/ matching addends and the sum, put that pair on the table. 1st player then asks another if he/she has a card w/ (whatever is needed). If the other player has that card, he/she hands it to player 1. If not, say "Go Fish." Continue until one player is out of cards.
