Flip Video Questions

Flip Video Questions

Postby Laura Bristol on Thu Oct 16, 2008 11:21 am

A coach ran into a problem as she was trying to burn videos onto the CDs received last week - a message box popped up saying the CD could not be written to.

Jim experienced this with his PC and recommends that you give the CD another try. He re-tried a CD that his computer said could not be written on and it worked the second time.

What other questions or tips do you have for 1) using the Flip camera to videotape conversations or 2) storing videos?

I find that saving video files to a large capacity jump drive or external hard drive preserves the .avi file type and makes backup, transfer, playback and editing much faster and easier than burning and ripping DVDs.

If your Flip camera requires a software update (also known as firmware), please make sure your batteries in your Flip camera are new batteries to make sure the Camera can complete the software upgrade. If the upgrade is interrupted, if may cause issues with your camera. It is also a good idea to back up your videos on your camera first, and close all other programs on your computer before performing the update.

If you have problems, you may go to Flip's website http://www.theflip.com/support_home.shtml for support information. The Flip's website does not have a customer support phone number listed, but I found one by simulating the software failure.

If you continue to experience difficulties with the Flip Video Firmware Update Program, contact the Flip Video Customer Support Team:

1. Click here to Contact Flip Video Support, or

2. Call the Customer Support Hotline: (888) 222-6689 (available 24 hours/day and 7 days/week)

Resetting the Flip Mino Camera

Postby Bill Nostheide on Wed Dec 03, 2008 3:05 pm

There are two methods of resetting the Mino:

1. The quickest method to reset the Mino is to hold the power button down for 10 seconds. This should unfreeze the Mino and allow for its normal function.

2. Another method to reset the Mino is to simply take a pin and insert it into the reset hole within the camera's tripod mount, wait five seconds before powering on, and then power on without touching any of the buttons on the back of the camcorder for an additional five seconds.

This should complete the reset process.

Next, please connect the USB arm to a high-powered USB port on your computer, and ensure your computer is powered on. You may see no activity on the camcorder - neither lights nor indication that the camcorder is charging - for the first 30 minutes. Once the initial 30 minutes has concluded, you should see some indication that the camcorder is charging and be able to power the camcorder on. Continue charging for the full amount of time (we suggest three hours) to ensure that the battery is completely charged before recording again.
