Teaching Philosophy:
I build on my experience and ability to create and manage the development and implementation of hands on design instruction. It is essential that student artists will experiment with design concepts in-group collaborations and individually to develop the skills of creative visualization, communication, and differentiation.

Each student artist is encouraged to build a vocabulary of basic principles of design, exercise visual perception, and develop organization of visual elements in works of art they will create during each module.

In this way I build on my demonstrated experience and ability to communicate and execute three-dimensional design concepts. I rely on my skill to build teams consisting of students with synergistic talents to complete collaborative works.
Each student artist will then complete several individual works from concept to installation while exercising skills necessary to execute their works design.

As well, I build on my experience of basic design concepts to introduce the use of materials, tools, and methods of creative sculpture to begin an exploration of the three-dimensional form. I introduce the concepts of casting and finishing of metal sculpture through the lost wax process using ancient methods, and modern ceramic shell technologies.

I draw on guest artists and my experience as a practicing visual artist to introduce concepts of professionalism, and a requirement for business vision, marketing, promotion, and presentation to open up possibilities for employment, and art commissions.

Current Projects.
I currently explore the effects of water and light, through my sculpture, painting, and photography. In my most recent sculpture series in process (See WATERFALL I, II, IV, V, OUTSIDE ART 95, 96, WETLANDS, and Waterfall III At 5TH and 6TH Annual le Salon Des Re'fuse's) I strive to evoke the wonder I feel while standing beside rapid rivers, mountain waterfalls, and while viewing roiling clouds reflected in still water.

Projects Details:
I use essential elements that project this primal wonder. My work combines water, sound, stone, aluminum, Mylar, bronze, copper, and Lucite. The works are models for 5 to 36 foot architectural sculptures for public places. I use solar, water, and wind power when called for in my sculpture.

Other proposals under development

1) WATERFALLS IV
I propose two 8 ft x 40 ft x 20 ft tall Lucite hanging sculptures that will cascade from 5 wrought iron arches straddling the walkway on both sides of park drive.

The component clear sheet forms will vibrate and sway in the wind as they reflect light and seem to spill into the walkways grass medians. Lucite components are secured with chain links.

The head of sculpture will be bolted and plated securely to structural wrought iron elements that are set in concrete, while the linked sheets will arc out and dance over the pedestrian walkway. The scale of this sculpture will allow pedestrians to walk, or sit under the cascade on the grass median.

The artist with local engineering and labor in compliance with codes will accomplish the installation of the sculpture. All structural elements will secured through to concrete. No maintenance after installation will be required.

2) WATERFALLS V

I have designed and propose a 6 ft wide x 3 ft deep x 16 ft long Polycarbonate hanging sculpture that will cascade from the roof, window sill, or prominent feature of one of a museums walls.

The component clear sheet forms vibrate and sway in the breeze as they reflect light and seem spill down to the gallery. All Components are connected with steel chain links.

The Head of sculpture will be Bolted and plated securely to structural elements while the linked sheets will arc out into the gallery and dance down over the pedestrian walkways. The scale of this sculpture will allow pedestrians to walk under and behind the cascade.

The artist will accomplish the installation of the sculpture. All elements are weatherproof. No maintenance will be required after installation.
This is one in a series of waterfall sculpture designs shown in slides and photos included in this proposal.

I am looking forward to your review for more detail on installation drawings for this proposal and other sculpture depicted in the enclosed slides.

Artists Statement:
The Nature of My Current Work

I am now completing the design for " Waterfall IV" A 10 ft x 20 ft x 40 ft arched sculpture fountain with pool that spans a plaza mall and will evoke with water and sound the experience of a waterfall through which the viewer can walk. The sculpture is solar powered and constructed as a space frame structure of powder coat steel, cast aluminum, aluminized Mylar, Lucite polycarbonate sheet, and stone. These forms will focus attention on the effects of cascading water sheeting on many levels, creating refraction's, which will transform the space with energetic movement.

I will be using proceeds from the sale of "Waterfall I " , "Waterfall I I"
And fellowships to purchase materials construct a foundry and build more sculpture. I am looking forward to your review of my proposal, design ideas, and sculpture.
