Video
games have come a long way since pong. What began as a technical challenge
for computer research has evolved into a huge business which some figures
show to be more profitable than Hollywood movies.
Unfotunately, many people are still unaware of all the work that
goes into making a commercial game. Back in the days when pong was
made, and for a long time thereafter, games were made by one or two
people. Many people still believe that this is the way games are
made, by a couple of people just hanging out and writing code all
day. In the Modern game industry, this just is not the case.
Take a look at the picture at left (Morrowind© by Bethesda Softworks).
While you probably realize that more than one person made this work,
you might be surprised at the number of different disciplines that
went into it (some of which cannot be conveyed visually). What I
hope to do in this site is give you a better feel for the amount
of work and art that really goes into making a modern video game.
