"I think it's a good idea because it's people trading music. It has nothing to do with
industry or finance, it's just people that want music and there's nothing wrong with that..."
-- Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters)

Although, the recording industry has not always and is only begining to embrace Mp3 technology and sites such as Napster, many of the artists have made their opinion known.  Metallica and Dr. Dre are known to be against Napster and file sharing, but other artists are not so eager to file lawsuits and to join in those who protest MP3 usage.  To see what some artists have said about Napster in particular,

Not everyone has been so positive toward Napster and the sharing of online files.  Many record companies are against the sharing of files.  Bertelsmann-A6 recently signed a contract with Napster, the first of it's kind.  Only time will tell whether record companies will begin to accept the online services and even use them as they can be used.  Among those who don't agree with Napster, and others, are Dr. Dre and Metallica.

Both of these artists have filed lawsuits against Napster.
