Optical illusions have mesmerized people for many centuries. Often, illusions have been exhibited in art by artists such as M. C. Escher or Salvador Dali. While most illusions are explained by the workings of the visual pathways of the brain, some are created in the eye itself, particularly within the retina, the interior layer of the back part of the eyeball. As you progress through this site, you will learn about these retinal illusions and how biology plays a part in their creation. |
