The Accounting Handbook

The Accounting Handbook covers all aspects of financial, managerial, tax, and auditing accounting.  The book is located on the third floor of the Steely Library; the call number is HF5635.S586 2000.  Joel G. Siegel, a CPA who is the author of over fifteen books, wrote the book with Jae K. Shim contributing.  The book is published by Barons Educational Series.

The Accounting Handbook is designed to be a quick reference tool for students and professional accountants.  The book is has thirteen chapters and a lengthy dictionary of accounting terms and definitions.  Some of the chapters included are Auditing, personnel financial planning and governmental and nonprofit accounting.  The 2000 edition is improved over the previous 1995 edition with an expanded auditing chapter and up to date accounting changes.  The Accounting Handbook is focused on US accounting practices but does include some information on international accounting.

The Accounting Handbook is a good source of general accounting information.  All types of accountants, including tax specialists and cost accountants, would find the information in this book to be relevant.  Although an accountant would probably not use this book in day-to-day operations, it would provide useful insight to accounting aspects that he/she does not specialize in or to keep up to date with the latest accounting standards.
