The Accounting and Tax Index
The Accounting and Tax Index is an annual index utilizing more than 1000 publications, mostly journals, and is updated three times a year. It is located in Steely Library on the third floor. The Accounting and Tax Index took over for the Accountants’ Index Supplement in 1991 when it was no longer published. The Steely Library only has the 1997, 1999, and 2001 Indexes available. The publications the Index uses are mostly US, but some come from other countries such as Australia and Canada.
The Accounting and Tax Index covers all areas of accounting and some other areas of business such as consulting and financial services industries. An accountant would use this to find an article relevant to any type of accounting research. The Index lists entries three ways: by subject heading, by the author, organization, agency, or journal, and all articles combined alphabetically. All entries include the articles title, author, publication name, issue, date of publication, and page numbers. An example would be “New Estate Freeze Rule: Practical Issues for Gift Leveraging, by Gary Stoback, Todd Wallace, David Evaul, Journal of Taxation, v8n4, December 1992, p. 291-309.”
The Accounting and Tax Index is one of the best places to start when
researching any accounting issue. The Index not only covers general
accounting, such as tax, managerial accounting, financial accounting and
Auditing, but also has articles relating to almost any specific accounting
issue in any industry and most relevant countries.
