Recognizing the value of NKU, community leaders recently created the
Northern Kentucky Technology Commercialization Triangle (NKTCT) in the
development region surrounding the university campus, bounded by US 27,
Interstate 275 and the AA Highway. Development of this commercialization
triangle includes privately funded initiatives focused on recruiting
already successful technology companies that have proven
products/research and want to grow their business to the next level by
partnering with a successful regional university. This effort will focus
on attracting high-tech divisions of major corporations and successfully
incubated technology companies.
The success of the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport
has brought national and regional headquarters of progressive
companies to the area surrounding it. Because of the needs of these
companies, and the potential for additional new business development
in this area, NKU has made a significant investment in a new facility
called the Metropolitan Education and Training Services (METS) center (www.usemets.org)
located near the airport. This 43,600 square foot facility focuses on
corporate training and serves the current and potential business
development around the airport.
The incredible success of the Madison E-Zone (www.madisone-zone.com)
in Covington, which now has a payroll in excess of $1 million, has
required NKU to provide its academic resources and student interns for
these rapid growing start-up companies. The Madison E-Zone management
has called for NKU to further enhance its support functions so that the
E-Zone team can continue its successful incubation of New Economy
companies.
