About the NKU Student IMA Club

Join the NKU Institute of Management Accountants

All students are welcome to join the NKU IMA student chapter (the Accounting Club).  We welcome students of any major or grade classification – from Accounting to Theatre and from Freshman to Post-graduate students!  What does becoming a member of the IMA do for you?

1. Information – The IMA sponsors informational meetings that teach you the necessary skills to obtain and keep the job you really want.  Past meeting topics have included resume writing, interviewing skills, and “How to Make Small Talk”.  The IMA also provides information about the types of jobs that are available in the accounting field as well as certification options.

2. Networking – The IMA is a great place to meet new people and make friends who may become important future contacts.  The Club will expose you to business professionals as well as NKU faculty members.  The IMA hosts meetings with different guest speakers from a multitude of different business occupations.  You always have the opportunity to meet and talk with the business professionals as they discuss their areas of expertise, experience, and lessons learned.  The IMA also hosts social events to bring together club members, NKU Accounting faculty and local business professionals in a casual and fun atmosphere.  Past social events have included a visit to the U.S.S. Nightmare (the haunted riverboat), NKU basketball games and Cyclones Hockey games.

3. Leadership Skills – The NKU IMA has officer positions for ambitious and motivated individuals.  If you are interested, the Club will offer you the opportunity to be a leader.  Officers run the Club - much like a CEO and other corporate officers run a business.  The experience is invaluable to your academic and future careers.  The IMA also has positions for students who want to become an officer, but aren’t quite ready for that initial step.  If this is you, become an officer shadow!  Shadows will see the officer position from a closer perspective and have fewer responsibilities as well as have the first opportunity to take on an officer position in the future!

4. Friendship & Help – Everyone, from time to time, could use a little help with a homework problem, choosing which class to take or with a job decision.  Other members of the Club can be the source of needed help.  You will have the opportunity to develop friendships with other students who have similar interests, while attending social functions, and meetings

The NKU IMA is a student organization run by students for the benefit of all business students.  The Northern Kentucky University Accounting Program is gaining a great reputation within the local business community of producing excellent graduates.  One way to continue this drive for excellence is to become a member of the Student Accounting Society, whose goal is to enhance student achievement and involvement.
