The following is a list of music that I use inside the classroom. Many of the songs are played before lectures and I try to use music from a people or place we will be discussing.

Voices of Forgotten Worlds inludes 34 track of indigenous music that is sampled from around the globe.

If you are lucky enough to get the book that accopanies the two CD set, you will have access to descriptions of the culture and songs.

The two CD set includes music by the Aga, Ainu, Australian Aborgines, Azerbaijani, Ba-Benjelle Pygmies, Batak, Bunun, Garifuna, Inuit, Kanak, Kayapo, Ladakhis, Maori, Maya, Native Americans, Newar, Pashtun, Quechuan, Rashaida, Saami, Solomon Islanders, Tibetans, Tolai, Turkmen, Tuvans, Vighurs, Wagogo, and Wodaabe.

Johnny Clegg is an anthropologist that spent his childhood living in the UK, Israel, Rhodesia, Zambia, and South Africa.

He taught at University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, before pursueing his music career full-time.

His music is political, fun and socially informed.

The CD includes the following songs: One (Hu)'man One Vote; Cruel Crazy Beautiful World; Jericho; Dela (I Know Why The Dog Howls At The Moon); Moliva; It's An Illusion; Bombs Away; Woman Be My Country; Rolling Ocean; Warsaw 1943; and Vezandlebe.

Tuku Music Oliver Mtukudzi, Putumayo World Music (1999).

Oliver Mtukudzi is a Zimbabwean musician with over forty-six albums in his twenty-six year career.

His unique style is lively and fun, while his lyrics concern social issues, such as globaliztion, aids and spousal abuse.

The CD includes the following songs: Dzoka Uyamwe; Tsika Dzedu; Mai Varamba; Ndima Ndapedza; Tapindwa Nei; Todii; Mabasa; Rirongere; and Wake Up.

Panjabi MC is an English artist that fuses rap/hip-hop with indian/asian in a modern world music form.

Although some of his work has become popular on US rap/hip-hop radio stations, many of the songs are more popular Indian in nature.

The CD includes the following songs: Beware (Jay-Z remix); Mirza (Part 2); Jogi; Sweeter; Soundz of the Des; Jatt Ho Giya Sharabee; Ghalia Gurian; Jindi Mahi; Challa; Yaaran Kollon Sikh Kuriye; True MC's; Jugni; Buzzin'; and Beware of the Boys (Mundian to Bach Ke).

The Vakoka Project is a collaboration between several Malagasy musicians (Jean Donné Ramananerisoa, Panayotis Dourantonis, Hanitrarivo Rasoanaivo, Dieu Donné Randriamanantena, Claude Teta, Héricole Lalasoa, Jean Gabin Fanovona, Seta Ramaroson Andrianary, Ahmed Mahamoudou, Fanaiky Oly Herivelona Rasolomahatratra, Managñosiky Damy, Haja Mbolatiana Tovo Rasolomahatratra, Sana Tinovo and Bege Monjamahafay).

The musicians have fused traditional and contemporary forms and instruments to create a unique sound.

The CD includes the following songs: Salama; Era; Verondolo; Lazao; Dame Ihaova; Faly Sy Ravo; Maromaso; Manigne; Varombazaha; Aomby Mazava Loha; Tokalava; Hiran'ny Gasy.
