Welcome to my Anthropological Niche!
I am an assistant professor of anthropology in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Philosophy at Northern Kentucky University. I maintain this website with information on my academic, teaching, and research as well as information on the Darkness in El Dorado controversy. My blog postings may be found below with musings on anthropology, technology, teaching, and more...
Doing FieldworkA new book of interest is available at the Steely Library at NKU, Doing fieldwork : ethnographic methods for research in developing countries and beyond, by Wayne Fife.

TranceAnthropologists have been studying altered states of consciousness for a long time, but few ethnographic films have been made documenting them. A blog post at Neuroanthropology lists and links a few good films. Environmental CouncilSince my posts are not random enough... Here is a short news article describing and anthropologist who is the new Air quality program director, Iowa Environmental Council, Des Moines. There are many anthropologists that find work in the environmental management/policy field. Since humans are the cause (solution?) for many of our current environmental problems, it only make sense for anthropologists to be involved. Army AnthropologistsWith the recent discourse on the ethics of anthropology and the military, I found this article refreshing as it shows how anthropology can be of practical use in the military without human subjects questions. Comic DissertationA cultural geographer took the 24 Hour Comic Day to create a comic version of her nearly finished dissertation... crazy. While I am not a fan of political economy theory, I did find that her explanation using the medium of the comic strip much more interesting than an abstract/summary. |
