Belle Zembrodt is the Assistant Director of the NKU Honors program. The primary focus of her duties includes fostering civic engagement and global citizenship of Honors students. In support of these initiatives she teaches courses developing global perspectives and incorporates international experiences and/or service learning into many of these courses. She has received several grants to enhance service learning opportunities for students and is one of the advisors of a new club on campus, the American Democracy Project, which partners with service organizations locally and nationally.
Her international experiences focus on Latin America and she is a faculty advisor for the Latino Institute for Excellence. Other research interests include positive psychology and food studies. She has taught courses and mentored capstone students on these topics as well. Other duties include mentoring students, providing faculty support, awarding scholarships, event planning, and representing the Honors Program at a variety of functions.
Her educational background is in psychology and includes a Master of Science from the University of Kentucky. Her thesis, Authoritarianism and Expectations of Others, was a quasi-experimental study comparing people with high and low scores on authoritarianism (a measure of prejudicial attitudes) on perceptions of others before and after interacting with them. She has also completed most of the degree requirements for a Master of Science in community counseling from NKU and is completing her internship at the office of Health, Counseling and Prevention. She continually adds to her education by attending and presenting at conferences on teaching and counseling. She enjoys reading, traveling, discussing ideas over dinner and is blessed to have a job where her interests and duties feed each other.
