Catching up
Update on the Honors house grounds:
* Horticulture came by and finished up the turf job. The whole back area of the House has been leveled out, sown with grass seed, and covered in straw. Roger asked if we could handle keeping the ground damp for a few weeks until it's established. He suggested running the sprinkler once or twice a day for about 30-45 minutes when it's hot and dry; every other day when it's cooler.
* They also cleared out the lower tier of herbs (where the old "medicinal" bed was). We can do whatever we want with that. I've offered the upper bed to Andy's class.
* They will be pruning back the tree next to the deck, but they're waiting on us to weed out that area. I didn't want them to dig all of that up, since we have a fairly expensive amount of hostas and irises in there.
* I transplanted all of the peppers today, following the chart we made. I also sowed the bush and edamame beans, five each to a square. That more or less completes the one 4x4 frame. I'll also plant the carrots, beets and salad greens sometime between today and Monday. I'm waiting until the basil and dill get a little taller before putting those in the ground, but after that the second 4x4 frame will be complete.
* Assuming we're on for Sunday, and the Z frame isn't fixed yet, we should plan to do that and to fill the frame at that point. Oh, I salvaged two very full wheelbarrows worth of soil from the old garden, and stored it in the outer can of the compost bin. It should be enough to fill the Z frame about a third up.
Apologies for the infrequent posting. NKU's campus has been having Blogger issues -- as in, it doesn't work at all, and I'm lucky if I can completely load a web site created by Blogger -- so I can't post while I'm at work. I'm hoping that will get resolved soon, but I somehow doubt that "I can't update my blog!" complaints rank very high on IT's list.
