Another round of planting
Jim came up this afternoon and we harvested what was left of one square of lettuce, and cleared out two other squares that had held beets (until the deer finally figured out they were there--for some reason they love them beets). We replanted the three squares with carrots and radish in one, buttercrunch lettuce and spinach in another, and broccoli in the third--since planting now means it will be ready by the fall. We turned over the soil with a couple spadesful of manure, planted and watered.
The estimated harvest dates for those are:
radish - sparkler: August 02
radish - crimson globe: August 06
spinach: August 17
lettuce: August 22
carrots: September 16
broccoli: September 30
We also pruned off dozens of the hundred-odd extra pumpkin blossoms that were (and still are) being produced. We've got four fruits on the one plant, and have decided that will be enough, and are trying to keep the plants energy directed towards growing those pumpkins. A couple of them are big as a baby's head.
