Last week--
I didn't have the time to blog. but for July 20, there was:
black eyed susan in bloom
an indian blanket in bloom.
we weeded the herb patches and cut the herbs back lots.
one of the gladiolas that survived the winter bloomed (i didn't know in our USDA zone glads are not winter hardy)

Today-
I weeded the strawberry patch. It's dry, so I'll be sure it gets watered on sunday.
I weeded a bit around the butterfly garden and some of the other patches.
I picked the first ripe tomatoes -- from the yellow pear. unfortunately, the plant is diseased and has browned out. Im guessing its a genetic defect, for otherwise if it was a plant disease it would have spread to the other plants, considering the proximity of the plants to one another. so having said that, I will not save the seed from the yellow pear tomato.

some tomatoes are turning pinkish on the brandywines and the principe borghese.
some of the butterfly weed is also blooming. i hope we fet some seeds we can use for next year.

as much as i am looking forward to harvesting our fruit, i'm looking forward to seed saving from our best fruits and plants. and also, especially seed saving for the butterfly garden. It looks like we will have plenty of seeds to save for every variety except lupine and butterfly weed. we can order those in january. if we do it then, we will have the seeds for the right season and have plenty of time to cold stratify them.

i'd like to get our fall seeds planted this weekend or next weekend.
