i pruned tomatoes yesterday -- some plant grew eight inches or so in seven days. I harvested a couple of zuchini that were huge -- several pounds each. and a couple of cucumbers. the veg garden is lush and growing the best it ever has, i would say.

i got the Square Foot Gardening book finally. I'm convinced its the direction the veg garden must go next year. I'm thinking we will need a demonstration garden for a family of four. This comes to two 4x12 planting areas-- in the end, we'd be using 96 square feeet compared to our current 256. I'd like to start on getting the beds prepared in the fall. Also, Aaron I need to get you this book just for its introduction -- its the story of our gardening careers!

other observations:
coreopsis now in bloom. also planted densley enough that it seems to be preventing weed growth.
all of the sunflowers are blooming.
sucess in the new coneflower patch - we got a definite coneflower, which will allow us to yank the plants which are not echinacea
i pinched back the basil that looked like it was getting ready to flower.

to do
checked out the gardening calendar -- time to start broccolli and cabbage.

might venture up to the garden in a couple of hours.
