Yesterday, Aaron and worked on getting the strawberry patch finished. the weeds took over and hour to pull, and then we finally layed down newspaper ( a sunday enquirer, an issue of citybeat, and a 2003 nku fall schedule) and then put about 2 inches of straw down to mulch. Most of the plants look very healthy Oh, and before doing the newspaper, i put down a few cups worth of bone meal evenly over the whole patch. Doesnt sound like a lot of work, but the whole endeavor took from noon till five, with an hour or so break for lunch.
Today, I staked the tomatoes, as i noticed a couple were starting to grow horizontally. Tied all of them up with strips of cloth torn from a very old The Cure t-shirt (from 1990 - Pictures of You video image shirt). Probably will want to heap a mound of soil on all the tomatoes soon -- its good for building thicker stems. Aaron stared digging the path for the butterfly garden. Then we got rained out as a storm blew in just as I was tying up the last of the tomato plants.
