A nice day -- 53 degrees and mostly sunny. Mapped out a fairly basic design for the iris/hosta area. Tilled the ground earlier in the week and weeded; today I got a little over half of the patch planted, consisting of about 20 irises and 4 of the large variegated hostas. Worked the ground down to a depth of about one foot, added some organic fertilizer, then planted so the root balls were about even with the top of the soil and watered thoroughly. I don't have the entire area mapped out yet. There is a blank section on the plan in the lower left, which can accomodate either more hostas, some of Jim's ivy, or a combination of the two.

We should remember to mulch sometime in the next couple of weeks.
