Well, the thing I've been fearing for years has finally happened. The grounds crew ran over our garden hose with the mower.

It's completely our fault, since we're too lazy to roll up the hose and left it out in the now obscuring tall grass. Oh well. The good news is, now that all these tropical storms are blowing through the south, we're getting a healthy amount of residual rainfall up here, too. My guess is we won't need to water for the rest of the season, and when it does become necessary, spot watering makes more sense at this point, with only a few crops left with which to concern ourselves.

Of the three cruciferous plants we transplanted, two survived--one cabbage and the other broccoli. Both are doing very well in the soil, and so far I've noticed no real pest problems. Maybe planting them in the fall is the way to go.

I also noticed that the culinary herbs sprung (sprang? sproinged?) back a bit due to all the rain from last week. The sage is looking healthy again, and there's new green growth coming from the center of the parsley I thought we would lose. I pruned back the parsley and removed all the dead foliage. The rosemary looks like it's been devoured by something, though.
