i'm doing research, and i thought i might note a few things. i started to wonder if catnip and catmint are the same herb, as we have what we believe is catmint in our new medicinal patch. according to A Modern Herbal they are. However "A Modern Herbal" was written in 1931, and I don't believe the writer was a botanist. Most other places on the web have though told me they were different herbs altogether. Unlike what botanical.com says, Catnip is Nepeta cataria and Catmint is Nepeta mussinii.
The description and photograph from this about.com Herbs for Health page confirms that we indeed have Nepeta mussinii.
I am so glad there's taxonomic nomenclature. So much less confusion.
