Characteristics of HNR Courses
The following characteristics are essential components that differentiate Honors courses from departmental courses:
- interdisciplinary if an HNR prefix
- utilizes seminar format
- if General Education, takes advantage of smaller class size with some seminar-type format
- normally not lecture-centered, but dialogic and interactive
- normally writing intensive, but with a variety of types of writing assignments
- uses innovative pedagogy and delivery; innovative assignments, both in traditional and creative forms
- makes use of current technology, both in instruction and in student work
- makes and encourages links to other courses and other disciplines
- develops continuities between courses and toward senior projects, Honors Capstone presentations
- encourages attendance and involvement at Honors events such as guest speakers, co-curricular activities, Honors Capstone presentations
