Characteristics of HNR Courses

The following characteristics are essential components that differentiate Honors courses from departmental courses:

  1. interdisciplinary if an HNR prefix
  2. utilizes seminar format
  3. if General Education, takes advantage of smaller class size with some seminar-type format
  4. normally not lecture-centered, but dialogic and interactive 
  5. normally writing intensive, but with a variety of types of writing assignments
  6. uses innovative pedagogy and delivery; innovative assignments, both in traditional and creative forms 
  7. makes use of current technology, both in instruction and in student work 
  8. makes and encourages links to other courses and other disciplines
  9. develops continuities between courses and toward senior projects, Honors Capstone presentations 
  10. encourages attendance and involvement at Honors events such as guest speakers, co-curricular activities, Honors Capstone presentations
