Honors Leadership Opportunities
Honors Ambassadors
The Honors Program is recruiting up to 25 Honors Program students to serve as Honors Ambassadors. Nationally, most Honors Programs and Colleges use Honors Ambassadors primarily to help in recruitment and publicity efforts, and while we will be using our Ambassadors in that role, we envision a much wider array of opportunities, including travel opportunities, leadership training, interaction with both NKU and community leaders, partnerships with entities such as Vision 2015, funded research opportunities, interaction with our visiting speakers, and more.
Students must be in good standing and active in the Honors Program. Honors Ambassadors are required to attend planning and collaboration meetings at least twice a semester, participate in a minimum of 2 Honors Ambassador events per semester, and be willing to represent the Honors Program to both the NKU and the greater regional community.

Peer Advisors
One opportunity for leadership and professional experience through the Honors Program is our Peer Advising Program. Peer advising programs are typically considered an integral part of advising practice. A 2004 survey showed that 65 percent of college campuses have some form of peer advising program. At NKU, several academic units utilize peer advisors in one capacity or another.
Students receive course credit while serving as a peer advisor. The program includes training and experience advising freshmen and sophomores about their progress and opportunities in the Honors Program. Peer advisors and the supervisor meet weekly to review appointments and cases. The peer advisor position requires a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality, but it can also be highly rewarding and provide experience applicable to many different careers. Some graduate school programs even offer advisor assistantship positions to qualified graduate students similar to teaching assistantship or research positions.
